The unpolished trophies of the everyday trenches

When’s the last time you wrote down your thanks for something given to or done for you?

Writing thank you notes is more than a courteous act. It’s also an indicator of how important the other person is to you, an acknowledgement of their skill and generosity, and it honors the time they gave towards their kind action.

Thank you notes are the trophies no one gets pictured holding, but they are of far greater value than any plaque or statue. Trophies often bear a formal, matter-of-fact inscription on them such as, “In honor of So-and-So’s outstanding charitable work among the Hottentots.” Would you rather have that hanging on your wall or dozens of real letters written to you by the hands of grateful Hottentots telling you with feeling how much your work has impacted their lives?

A living word beats a cold award every day and twice on Fridays.

To your card giving,
