The overlooked fundamental in note writing

There is a lot of writing available on how to craft the perfect handwritten note.

But I want to go backwards to before you even begin thinking about writing a note to someone else.

I want to focus on the internal story you tell yourself about…yourself.

There is an old command, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” You can’t love others until you have learned first to love and accept yourself. If you do not love yourself how can you rightly know how to love your neighbor?

You can outwardly follow the motions of polite behavior and still hate yourself. But if you love yourself in a positive way then your service to others can begin to issue from the heart.

It can be hard to think of uplifting words of encouragement and appreciation when you are not used to seeing yourself in an appreciative light.

Humans tend to project whatever they think about themselves onto their fellow humans. If you squelch your dreams, you’ll squelch other people’s dreams. Or you’ll viscously attack them when they do go after their dreams and especially if they succeed in attaining them.

If you believe that anything is possible for you, you’ll think and wish the same for others.

Thinking well of others begins with thinking well of yourself. The best ways I’ve found for changing how you think about yourself is by writing down true, positive facts about who you are and speaking them out loud.

It will take time depending on how deep your disgust with yourself goes and you may forget who you are sometimes, but after a while these truths become a part of you. Your whole outlook will be changed.

How you look at and write to others will also be changed because now you can love them just like you love yourself.

You’ll also only want to give cards you would enjoy receiving such as the ones at the link below:
