The one word you can say to change someone’s life
I watched a web design tutorial once in which the instructor made the following comment, “It’s always nice to be congratulated, even when it’s not your birthday.”
He said this with reference to a pop-up, but I believe the statement stands well on it’s own.
You have been congratulated on something at sometime during your life, I’m sure. And it felt pretty good, didn’t it?
When you are congratulated your work is being celebrated by someone else who holds an interest in what you do. You are a hero to them.
Being congratulated is so much more than a celebration, though. It is also a recognition of a person’s importance and an encouragement to undertake even greater accomplishments.
“Congratulations” is code for “you have done well here, now go and tackle the next mountain just as gloriously”. It is the rewarding view after the hard climb.
Doesn’t having your accomplishments acknowledged nerve you to achieve even greater things? To take greater pride in your work?
If you answered yes, then behold the power your own words of praise can work in the lives of other people.
A few sincere words of recognition for hard labor well done can change the trajectory of a person’s life, even career.
You will make them feel recognized and valued…and they may very well remember you and become your friend for it, especially if no one else shows the same admiration for their work as you do.
Besides spreading words of congratulations verbally, it is also a good idea to write them down. This allows the recipient to revisit your words in the future as a form of encouragement if they need it.
Greeting cards make great carriers of such messages, and I happen to sell a few handmade cards for the purpose of congratulating others at the link below:
