Why Woodpeckers Are More Memorable Than Some Humans

Bam. Bam. Bambambam.

That was the startlingly loud racket that descended on my ears one morning after breakfast was cleared away.

I recognized who the culprit was a second later, though. It was a woodpecker drumming on our chimney.

Woodpeckers often drum on hollow trees to announce where their boundary lines are to other woodpeckers and to attract mates. This was springtime, drumming time.

I had observed woodpeckers drumming on the metal caps of deck posts before, but never had I heard of a woodpecker drumming on a metal chimney pipe. It grabs your attention like a kazoo in a classical symphony.

When you want to make sure your message is heard and remembered, it is helpful to consider the medium by which you deliver your message. That woodpecker could have drummed on a hollow tree in the yard, but he didn’t. Our chimney creates a louder sound than any hollow tree ever can.

The majority of people go through life communicating on the same hollow trees as everyone else often drumming the same tired tune.  Social media and cheap, average greeting cards are among those hollow trees.

Get bamming on the ol’ metal chimney pipe today and write a letter or send a unique card with an uplifting note written inside.

And remember, I’m always here to help you along the lines of unique greeting cards.
